Graham Health Center at Oakland University is seeking qualified applicants
for a Nurse Practitioner position. This is a part time 20hr/week 9 month
contract position from the second week of August through the first week
of May plus 10hr/month in June and July. Clinic coverage hours are scheduled
as the need arises and are paid on an hourly basis in addition to quoted
salary. The Nurse Practitioner will provide health teaching and community
health services to university groups by arrangement, in health fair settings,
in consult with other university programs and peer mentors; prepare educational
programming based on sound behavior change theory and clinical research
literature; provide medical care, disease prevention, health maintenance,
and health teaching to Oakland University students and staff, within the
scope of practice of a nurse practitioner; prescribe medications, treatments
and diagnostic studies in consult with and under the delegated authority
of contracted physicians; provide these services primarily by accommodating
the scheduling of walk-in and same day acute care visits at specified times;
and commit to a willingness and flexibility to provide clinic coverage
in the event of the absence of both of the other nurse practitioners primarily
in the event of personal or family illness or emergency. Minimum qualifications:
Master's Degree in Nursing or an equivalent combination of education and/or
experience; certification as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner; state
of Michigan licensure with specialty certification; two years experience
as a nurse practitioner in a primary care setting; one year experience
functioning as a nurse educator/health educator in a public health or community
health role; knowledge of an ambulatory care clinic; excellent organizational
and analytical skills; excellent oral and written communication skills;
and the ability to communicate effectively with others.Salary is up to

Nurse Practitioner position for the "Positive Steps Study"; a study
involving patients co-morbid for diabetes and depression. Work on a study
examining whether specialized telephone contact is helpful to people living
with diabetes and depression. Working closely with research staff to identify
potentially eligible participants; conduct in person eligibility screening,
administer baseline surveys and informed consents; communicate with participants'
primary care providers regarding study participants' diabetes and depression
symptoms, medication regimen, adherence and other self-care issues; deliver
the stepped care management intervention (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
for patients focusing on diabetes and depression following an established
research protocol and using a manual (primarily via telephone calls); and,
provide research documentation. NOTE: This position is 8 hours/week, vary
days/eves/weekends.
Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Michigan. A Master's
degree in clinical nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience
is necessary. Graduation from a Nurse Practitioner Continuing Education
Program is necessary. Certification As a Nurse Practitioner in the appropriate
specialty by a National Credentialing Organization is necessary. Minimum
of 3 years experience in the care of patients with co-morbid chronic disease
and depression. In-depth knowledge of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Experience
in medication management of depression. Experience in patient-centered
research and research methodology. Demonstrated excellent communication
skills (especially skill in communicating with other patient care providers),
organizational skills and ability to work autonomously in a non-structured
environment. Experience in diabetes care issues. Knowledge of diabetes
medication management. Experience with IRB issues, protocols and recruitment
issues. Positions posted for less than 20 hours per week may have the potential
to be combined with another position. Applicants who have left the bargaining
