Philadelphia University seeks a Program Director for the Certificate
Nurse-Midwifery Program and the Master of Science in Midwifery Program,
both graduate programs in the School of Science and Health. This is primarily
an administrative position. We are celebrating 10 years in nurse-midwifery
education this spring and look forward to the next 10 years of continued
excellence in midwifery education!
Responsibilities include the overall administration of the two graduate
midwifery programs and their staff, faculty and students, which includes
development, organization, implementation, planning and evaluation of the
programs.
Essential responsibilities for the administration and leadership of
the midwifery programs include: on-going development and coordination of
the distance-learning programs including curriculum development and evaluation;
development and implementation of annual and long-term program goals, policies
and objectives; preparation and monitoring of program budget; staff/faculty
recruitment, development and evaluation; oversight of the on-going development
and maintenance of the program’s Lotus Notes environment; participation
in the university’s committees and professional opportunities; development
and coordination of the continuous-review process to evaluate the effectiveness
of the programs, including coordination of the accreditation process; supervision
of student recruitment activities including marketing and public relations;
student advisement; oversight of program equipment and facilities needs
assessment and purchase; coordination of strategic planning for the programs,
including seeking external funding for program development; participation
in the professional organization of the American College of Nurse-Midwives,
including being a spokesperson for the programs; continuing engagement
in one or more of the following: scholarly activities, clinical practice,
or teaching.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree or higher in nursing, education, public health or related
health discipline is required. Must be certified by the American College
of Nurse-Midwives Certification Council and be a current active member.
Demonstrate knowledge of education, certification, and the role of the
professional nurse-midwife/midwife. Demonstrate administrative or management
experience. Demonstrate clinical experience in midwifery. Demonstrate excellent
communication skills. Experience with distributive distance learning is
preferred. Experience with research projects related to midwifery and women’s
health preferable.

fill a position of ORTHOPEDIC NURSE PRACTITIONER.
RESPONSIBILITIES: First Assistant to busy orthopedic surgeon
during procedures for a wide variety of surgical cases. Performs
complex surgical techniques as needed and as directed by physician.
Provides post operative care to patients on an as necessary basis i.e.,
evaluates patient's physical condition to ensure no secondary complications
have occurred due to surgery, removes sutures and/or staples, and aspirates
wound fluids. Dictates discharge summaries for patient's medical
record and for billing purposes, including final diagnosis, operations
and/or procedures performed, complications, discharge instructions, and
a narrative summary of patient's stay as well as pertinent laboratory and
pathology findings, in accordance with established policies and protocols.
See patients in a clinic setting, performing routine orthopedic assessments
and treatments. Performs patient pre operative hospital and Clinic day
surgery admission histories and physicals for surgical patients. Forms
patient assessment and develops preliminary patient care plan. Makes hospital
patient visits (rounds), with physician and/or independently, to monitor
patient's current physical condition, assesses changes in patient's condition,
adjusts patient's care plan accordingly, writes new patient orders for
medications, lab/x ray tests, etc., and documents all of the above in patient's
medical record. Performs all activities in accordance with established
policies and protocols.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Master's
Degree in Nursing . Previous orthopedic surgery experience preferred.

The exam occurs twice yearly, the closest 2006 site is Baltimore. However,
